Vijyender Sharma SHIMLA-----Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Virender Kanwar has expressed concern that Gram Panchayats are failing to spend the funds provided under 14th Finance Commission in a stipulated time period.

He said that Rs. 1420 crores have been released under the 14th Finance Commission to the Gram Panchayats of the state since year 2015-16, but they have been able to spent only Rs. 800 crores out of it, which is a matter of concern.

Moreover, they will have to return the unspent amount to the Panchayati Raj department.

Virender Kanwar said that funds are directly being transferred to all the 3226 Panchayats of the state, which they can utililse for various developmental works especially cleanliness, drinking water, street lighting, construction and repair of roads, public toilets, installing hand pumps and constructing other public properties.

He also directed all the Block Development Officers for ensuring regular review of the developmental works being carried out under 14th Finance Commission during the monthly meetings of the Gram Panchayats and sending a report regarding this to the Directorate of Panchayati Raj.
