SHIMLA--Smt. Sheela Dhumal, Chairperson, H.P. Red Cross Hospital Welfare Branch, flagged off a truck loaded with relief material for the assistance of Bihar flood victims. Relief material include rice, sugar, cereals etc. and blankets, cloths, shawls, tents and utensils.

Later on, presiding over the monthly Executive Committee meeting of the H.P. Red Cross Hospital Welfare Branch here today, Smt. Dhumal said that the Branch would provide all possible assistance to the sufferers of Bihar floods and added that the Branch would function as nodal agency and has setup a centre in Red Cross Building at Shimla.

She said that the Branch has sent clothes, blankets and other essential commodities as assistance to the flood victims of Bihar and appealed the business class, NGOs and others to come forward to help the victims. She said that the objective of the Red Cross was to provide assistance to sufferers of natural calamities.

Smt. Sheela Dhumal said that Red Cross was playing a significant role in serving the suffering humanity and efforts were being made to expand the activities upto grassroot level. She said that women were playing effective role in education, poverty alleviation and welfare and Red Cross activities. She said that the members of Red Cross Hospital Welfare Branch were also helping needy people residing in various Ashrams.

She said that the Branch has decided to hold blood donation camp every month all over the State besides regularly organizing multipurpose camps to boost the activities of the Branch. She exhorted the members to expand the activities of the Red Cross upto grassroot level.

Earlier, Shri Uttam Singh Thakur, Secretary, H.P. Red Cross-Hospital Welfare Branch welcomed Smt. Sheela Dhumal and detailed out the activities of the Branch.

Smt. Nirta Akre, Honorary Secretary also spoken on the occasion.
