C.M. dedicated Rs. 2.90 crore Indoor Stadium at Dharamsala

DHARMSHALA 25 Febuary 2008.---Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister said that the State Government would carry out the recruitment to fill up backlog vacancies reserved against three percent sports quota in different departments to provide employment to outstanding sports persons in government sector and would carry out future recruitments of sports persons as per the roster. He was addressing the National Sports Awardees honoured with cash award, citation and momento in the State level ‘Samman Samaroh’ organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at Dharamsala today. He also dedicated the Indoor Stadium completed at a cost of Rs. 2.90 crore at Dharamsala to the sports persons of the State. Chief Minister said that State Government would monitor recruitment process in all departments and transparency would be maintained in the process. He said that it was during his earlier tenure when sports quota in government recruitments was enhanced from one percent to three percent to provide more opportunities to sports persons. He said that sports policy was also formulated during his earlier tenure and award amount was doubled as a token of recognition. He said that 960 sports persons had been honoured so far with cash prizes of Rs. 80 lacs. He said that 95 outstanding sports persons at national and international level, 16 outstanding youth who had contributed towards youth activities and 7 coaches were also awarded for exemplary services towards sports promotion. He said that State Government was committed towards protection of interests of sports persons and would provide them every possible help from time to time. Chief Minister said that State Government would endeavour to create quality infrastructure at district and block levels for football, hockey, athletics and other sports. He said that sports hostels had been constructed at Una and Bilaspur where coaching in wrestling, judo and kabaddi sports was being imparted. He said that efforts were afoot to provide fitness centers at all district headquarters. He said that State Government would make efforts to motivate maximum number of youth in youth activities so that at least one lac youth were involved in such activities besides exploring possibilities of generating self employment avenues in different sectors. He said that a plan was under preparation to achieve the objective. He said that State had 39 stadiums for different sports constructed at a cost of Rs. 14 crore and added that work on 17 such projects was in progress which would soon be completed. He said that with the completion of Dharamsala Indoor Stadium, basketball, volleyball, badminton, boxing and martial arts etc sports activities would be carried out conveniently throughout the year. He added that Dharamsala also had Outdoor Stadium, Indoor Boxing Ring, SAI Sports Hostel and above all International standard Cricket Stadium. He said that 400 metres modern athletic track was also under completion. Prof. Dhumal appreciated the contribution made by outstanding sports persons at national and international level which included Shri Samresh Jang in shooting from Nahan, Shri Vijay Kumar in Shooting from Hamirpur, Shri Madan Lal, Shri Deepak Thakur and those who excelled in winter sports who had brought laurels to the State. He hoped that budding sports persons take inspiration from such sports persons and continue the tradition of bringing laurels to the State and Nation. He expressed happiness over the fact that about 50,000 sports persons had represented the State in different activities outside the State. Chief Minister assured the sports persons that all the shortcomings would be removed and department would be strengthened with modern sports infrastructure. He advised them to work more hard and excel in their sports. He awarded prize money worth Rs. 1.60 lac to 95 National players of the State besides Rs. 43,000 to 16 youth. Shri T.G.
