SHIMLA---------Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary was sworn-in as the Judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court today. He was administered oath of Office by the Acting Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir in a simple but impressive ceremony held in the High Court. Before this, he was serving as the Additional Judge of the High Court. The Judges of H.P. High Court Justice D.D. Sud and Justice Sanjay Karol were also present on the occasion.
The Registrar General Sh. A.C. Dogra conducted the proceedings. He read out the Warrant of appointment issued by the President of India appointing Justice D.C. Chaudhary as Judge of the High Court of H.P.
Justice Chaudhary was born in a rural Agriculturist family on 12 March, 1958 in Village Lohara in District Mandi. He studied law from Himachal Pradesh University, in the year 1983 and enrolled as an Advocate on May 10, 1983. Practiced in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh in Civil, Criminal, Constitutional, Labour, Company and Service matters. He also held many key posts in the Bar Association from 1986 to 1995. He also remained Additional Standing Counsel to Central Government in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh as well as Standing Counsel to various Boards/Corporations and Banks etc.
Before being elevated as the Additional Judge of the High Court on January 21, 2012, he was posted on various important posts in the State Judiciary. He remained Registrar General-cum-Principal Secretary to Hon'ble the Chief Justice from October 2010 to January 2012. He also remained posted as District and Sessions Judge (Inspection), Registrar (Rules), Registrar (Vigilance) in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh as well as Central Project Coordinator under the e-Courts Project of Department of Justice, Govt. of India.
Justice Chaudhary had entered the H.P. Higher Judicial Services in the year 1995 and appointed as the Additional District and Sessions Judge and remained posted as such in Kullu and Shimla. He was also posted as District and Sessions Judge, Hamirpur and Kullu and Lahaul & Spiti Divisions and also President, District Consumer Disputes Redressal Fora, Mandi, Kullu and Lahaul & Spiti Districts.
Lokayukta of H.P. Sh. Lokeshwar Singh Panta, Justice (Retd.) Sh. Bhawani Singh, Advocate General Sh. Shrawan Dogra, Principal Secretary (Finance) to the Govt. of H.P. Sh. Shrikant Baldi, Registrars of the High Court Sh. Sureshwar Thakur, Sh. Sushil Kukreja, Sh. K.S. Chandel and Sh. Arvind Malhotra, Director of the H.P. Judicial Academy Sh. C.B. Barowalia and Member Secretary of the HP State Legal Services Authority Sh. Virender Singh along with a number of Bar and staff members were also present on the occasion.
Later, Justice Chaudhary expressed his sincere gratitude towards his parents for providing good education to him despite humble background, his elder brother Sh. N.C. Bhardwaj for his guidance and his wife Smt. Promila Chaudhary for her constant support and being a source of inspiration.
