Dehra Gopipur---The second day of Public Information Campaign being held at Dehra in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh under the auspices of Press Information Bureau Shimla today was dedicated to the universalisation of education.
Presiding over the function Food and Civil Supply Minister Ramesh Dhawala has urged the centre to restore the system of providing dry ration as in the past, instead of cooked food in schools of the state under the midday meal program.
Mr. Dhawala observed that the studies of the students are being hampered as teachers in the schools have to get involved in cooking of food and maintaining records of ration.
He also said that about 800 government schools in the state are on the verge of closure as there has been a trend of most of the children taking admission in the private school for better education.
Mr Dhawala, while appreciating Universalistation of elementary education scheme said that it has proved benficial in strengthening infrastructure of schools.
Stating that center has provided plenty of funds under MNREGA, he however said that the funds have remained unutilized due to change made in the provision of proportion for material and labour.
Earlier, a rally of schools students on univeslisation of education was flagged off at Dehra by SDM Rakesh Sharma. The students of various schools holding banners and paper cut outs depicting value of education in the life took part in the the rally.
The procession started from Shahid Bhuwanesh Dogra stadium passed through the main bazaar, bus stand streets of the town.
On the entire routes students shouted slogans charging the whole atmosphere with message that the education is essential for all round development of an individual and the society as a whole. The rally came back at the stadium before conclusion.
Former Rajya Sabha member Krpal Parmar and Zila Parishad Chairman of Kangra Shretha Chaudhary were prominent among the present on this occasion.
