Shimla--Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister said that art and literature were the reflection of ancient cultural heritage to remind the present generation about its importance. He was addressing a gathering on the occasion of Sankalp-2010 organised by Department of Language, Art and Culture to mark the celebration of New Year eve with the young artists trained by Theatre Group at historic Gaiety Theatre here today.
Chief Minister said that State Government had restored the historic Gaiety theatre to its original architecture so that it could serve as a centre of cultural activities in the heart of the town. He said that during last one year a number of cultural variety programmes had been staged in the theatre thereby giving boost to the cultural activities. He said that he was impressed with the presentation given by young artists staging different forms of art and exhibiting the true spirit of Indian cultural legacy. He said that Indian culture propagate the harmonious character of the society.
Prof. Dhumal assured the Theatre Group of all possible help from Government in carrying forward with the cultural promotion activities in the town.
Dr. Prem Sharma, Director, Language, Art and Culture welcomed the Chief Minister and detailed the activities being organised in the Gaiety Theatre.
Shri S.N. Joshi, Retired IAS Officer and promoter of Folk Culture also spoke on the occasion.
Shri Suresh Bhardwaj, MLA, Shri Ganesh Dutt, Vice Chairman, HIMUDA, Shri Rajesh Sharda, President, BJP Shimla Mandal, Shri A.N. Sharma, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Shimla, Shri J.S. Rana, Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Arun Sharma, Director, Tourism, Shri Sonal Agnihotri, S.P. and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
