Governor participates in cleanliness campaign

SHIMLA----Governor Acharya Devvrat today participated in the Cleanliness Campaign organized by Municipal Corporation Shimla at Padam Dev Complex at Ridge, Shimla, today. He himself took a broom and cleaned the area towards Rivoli along with Mayor MC Shimla Kusum Sadret, Deputy Mayor Rakesh Sharma, Councilors and officials of the corporation.

            Talking informally with media person, the Governor said, ''Global warming is posing a serious challenge and effective steps should be taken to protect the precious environment which sustains human life. ''

            He said that Himachal was known for its salubrious climate and pristine beauty and it was essential to preserve the beauty of the hill state, which is possible if all sections of society were involved. He said Lakhs of tourists visit Himachal Pradesh every year and to promote tourism, towns and cities should be kept clean.

            Acharya Devvrat said that he asked the MC authorities to consider in developing a park at that area. He said that he had informed that it was being considered by the corporation to engage various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in maintaining the corporation's land and their work would be assessed later in the year. The NGO which has done good work would be honoured.

            Advisor to Governor Dr. Shashikant Sharma and Commissioner MC Shimla Pankaj Lalit were also present on the occasion.
