Lectures Series 'WE 4 CLIMATE' be held in State

SHIMLA--- A popular series of lectures 'WE 4 CLIMATE' on climate change and sustainable development will be held in the State under the Indo-German bilateral project 'Climate Change Adaptation in Rural Areas of India (CCA RAI)' which is being implemented in Himachal Pradesh by Department of Environment, Science & Technology.

            Director, Environment, Science and Technology D.C Rana today said that the first lecture has been scheduled to be held on 1 August, 2018 at Shimla followed by planary sessions.

            Director General, Centre for Science and Environment, New Delhi Sunita Narain will deliver the first lecture. Director, Centre for Environment Education, Ahmedabad Kartikey V. Sarbhai will speak on role of education for empowering communities in tackling the climate change adverse impacts.

             He said that the objective of the series is to serve as a platform to promote dialogue and knowledge exchange and experience sharing among wider community of stakeholders including researchers, practitioners, policymakers and the public including students about climate change challenges and adaptation and mitigation practiced and needed in rural India. This in turn will fulfill larger objective of strengthening science-policy-practice connect. There will be four lectures one each at Shimla, Nauni, Palampur and Nahan to be hosted by the Department of Environment, Science & Technology and Centre for Environment Education (CEE).

            D.C Rana said that there will be a plenary session to understand the climate change challenges and efforts in progress in India and Himachal Pradesh. Deliberations will be held on the role of research organizations, NGOs-CBOs, youth and the government in climate change adaptation and mitigation. There will be second plenary session to have a look at the discussion and recommendations of the breakaway sessions and to plan for future interventions. High level government officials including Chief Secretary will take part in the lecture. The second lecture will be on 3 August 2018 at D r. Y.S Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry, Nauni, Solan, he added.
