Governor stresses need for more research on Ayurveda

SHIMLA---Governor Acharya Devvrat said that keeping in view the increasing burden of existing and emerging diseases and gaps in modern medicines, there was a need to include indigenous systems in mainstream medicines. 

            The Governor was speaking on the closing ceremony of three day long State level Arogya fair at Shimla today organized by Ayurveda department in collaboration with the Ministry of Ayush, Govt. of India and CII. 

            He said that Ayurveda had identified congenital factors and had a programme from life to death, from womb to tomb. It was the science of life and the role of medicine in the management of the disease had been limited to the minimum as it rightly identifies the importance of diet and physical activity in daily life style. He said that the state has been blessed with immense treasure of medicinal herbs and plants which were being used in the preparation of Ayurvedic medicines. 

            The Governor also stressed upon more research work on Ayurveda and said that more laboratories should be set up in the State. He appealed particularly the youth to avoid junk food to lead a healthy life. He said that people should adopt traditional Ayurveda system to live a healthy life. 

            He urged the Ayurvedic practitioners to treat the patients with this system of treatment only and focus on more research work on Ayurveda. He said that there should be separate department of research for Ayurveda in Paprola college of Ayurveda and the department should take the initiative in this direction. He appreciated the efforts of the department in  organizing this fair and urged to organize more such fairs in future also. 

            Earlier, the Governor also evinced keen interest in the exhibition set up during the festival. 

            The Governor also presented awards to the winners of painting and essay competition organized by the department of Ayurveda. 

            Health and Family welfare Minister Shri Kaul Singh Thakur said that concerted efforts have been made during last four years by present government for expanding ayurvedic activities in the state besides allopathy. He said that various posts had been filled and number of posts of Ayurvedic doctors had been sanctioned and process has been started to fill up these posts. He said that it was the need of the hour to adopt Indian system of treatment as Ayurvedic medical system was the only way of permanent treatment of various disease.

             Ayurveda and Cooperation Minister Shri Karan Singh said that State government was committed for the expansion of Ayurveda in the State and efforts were being made to organize various activities related to the Ayurveda so that people in large could be benefitted.  He said that 50 bedded ayurvedic hospital would be developed in Bajora in Kullu district and also herbal garden was being developed in the area which would be dedicated to the people of the area in April next year.

             

            Principal Secretary , Ayurveda Smt. Nisha Singh detailed out various activities and about  three day show during the Arogya Mela on the occasion. 

            Vice Chairman, CII Himachal Pradesh Shri Rajesh Sabu proposed vote of thanks.

            Senior officers of the State Government and Ayurveda department were also present on the occasion.
