UNDP to assist in developing Dharamshala as Smart City

SHIMLA---Urban Development and Town & Country Planning Minister Shri Sudhir Sharma disclosed here today that on the request of the State Government, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) had agreed to provide assistance in developing Dharamshala as Smart City. Initially, UNDP had also released funds to the tune of Rs. 50 lakh (75000 Dollars) for this project.
He said UNDP would link Dharamshala with Japan for earthquake resistant technology which was the most advanced technology available today. Besides, it would also be linked with USA for availing benefits of different expertise. He said UNDP would provide expertise assistance in disaster preparedness, water management, urban planning through Japan and USA.
Shri Sudhir Sharma said UNDP had also coordinated earlier in capacity building programme and expert manpower in all urban local bodies of the State.
The Minister said a team of UNDP would visit Dharamshala in next two-three days to discuss various issues regarding the Smart City.
