Himachal High Court issued notice to Chief Secretary and other officials in a matter pertaining to trimming of cracked hanging rock boulders above roadside

SHIMLA-----The High Court of H.P. today issued notice to Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, and Forest to the Government of Himachal Pradesh, Deputy Commissioner, Shimla, Engineer-in Chief, HPPWD, Chief Engineer, HPPWD, D.F.O. Shimla and Executive Engineer, PWD, Division in a matter pertaining to trimming of cracked hanging rock boulders above roadside near Navabhar-Sanjuli road. Court also directed the respondents to file status report within two weeks in this matter. In the meanwhile court directed the respondents to take all steps, which are required under the law in this matter.

            A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Sandeep Sharma passed these orders on a petition taken up suo moto by the Court on a letter written to the Chief Justice by one Ranvijay Singh resident of New Dhalli. The petitioner has addressed a letter to the Chief Justice with the request to issue necessary directions to the department of PWD for cutting/trimming of hanging cracked rock boulders along roadside for averting accidents in public interest. The petitioner has mentioned in the petition that there exist big rock boulders which are hanging down on the road near Navbhar on Sanjauli -Shimla road. Further pointed out that these rocks have developed big cracks and are susceptible to fall anytime, particularly in rainy season. The said location is very near to school namely Convent of Jesus & Mary, and Collage namely St. Beads. Besides, pedestrians, children/students in large numbers and vehicles carrying people cross this road daily.
