Himachal High Court reserved the order in the matter related to the supply of contaminated water which resulted in jaundice out break in shimla

SHIMLA------The High Court of H.P. on Tuesday  reserved the order in the matter related to the supply of contaminated water which resulted in jaundice out break in the City. Court also issued direction to the Director PGIMER, Chandigarh to submit detail of all those persons, hailing from the state of Himachal Pradesh , who died in PGI, Chandigarh, due to jaundice with effect from December, 2015 till date, by or before 10.00 A.M. on 24th February, 2016.

A Division Bench comprising the Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and  Jutice Tarlok Singh Chauhan passed these orders on a petition taken up suo moto by the Court as Public Interest Litigation on the news items published in various news paper on 03.01.2016 regarding contaminated water supply in the Shimla city.

It was reported in the various news papers that Ashwani Khud water, which caters to the need of drinking water of 1/3rd of Shimla town, is highly contaminated. The news papers reports even suggested that the swage mixed water was being supplied to the residents, which has created an epidemic like situation in the Town. It was also reported in the news jaundice and other water born diseases are engulfing the people of the town and the number is on the increase day by day.

During hearing this matter it was observed by the court that drinking water is one of the basic necessities for human existence on the Earth. Because of the apathy on the part of the Authorities concerned, the people of Shimla town, do not have access to clean drinking water and are falling prey to many water born diseases.
