CM urges PRI representatives to work with dedication for development of their areas

Dharamshala, 02 February - Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh has urged the newly elected representatives of the Panchayati Raj Institutes to work with full dedication for welfare of the people and speedy development of their respective areas. He said Rs. 10 lakh each would be distributed to 114 Gram Panchayats who elected their representatives unopposed.

The Chief Minister was today addressing a public meeting at Kotla in Jawali constituency of Kangra district.

He expressed his gratitude towards the people of the State for electing maximum Gram Panchayat Pradhans and BDC members affiliated with the ideology of Congress Party. He said barring  Kangra, Kinnaur and Hamirpur Zila Parishads  where the posts of Zila Parishad chairperson had gone to BJP supported candidates while other top posts of Zila Parishad had been bagged by the candidates of Congress party. 

He advised the BJP leaders to come openly from every front if they wanted to fight a political battle but should refrain from back-stabbing. He said that Shri Shanta Kumar too remained the Chief Minister, but his way of working was quite different and decent and never implicated his political opponents or fabricated them in false cases.

"No matter what modus-operandi the state BJP leaders may adopt against me, the people of the State are with me and have stood with me like a shield whenever my political opponents tried to show me down", said Shri Virbhadra Singh. 

He said the Congress Party did not believe in differentiating with the regions when the question of development comes to the fore.  The Congress government had ensured balance in providing road connectivity,  educational and health institutions and other developmental works in all areas of the State.

The Chief Minister said that 8842 hand-pumps  were installed in Kangra district in last three years whereas 62 irrigation schemes were under  progress including Rs 205 crore Phinna Singh irrigation scheme at Nurpur and Rs. 180 crore Chonch Khud channelisation in Indora.  He said that 166 kms new roads and 29 bridges were constructed in the district during this period and 29 thousand youths were paid skill development allowance of Rs. 20. 71 crore under Kaushal Vikas Yojna.

Shri Virbhadra Singh announced up-gradation of Primary Health Centre, Kotla to Community Health Centre, opening of new Ayurveda Dispensary  at Bagga,  foot bridge over Bhed khud and Kotla –Balla over Dehar khud, Kotla-Bhaded-Jolna road. He announced fencing of sports ground at Kotla and to make a separate pedestrian path leading to Mata Bagula-Mukhi temple from Kotla bridge.

He assured that the matter for Kotla-Shimla bus would be discussed on priority basis.  

He also laid foundation stone of Sub-Tehsil building at Kotla to be constructed at cost of Rs. 81 lakhs.

Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Shri Neeraj Bharti said Kotla belt was neglected by the BJP government in terms of development but during last three years this constituency had witnessed speedy development in all spheres.  He also placed few demands of the area before the Chief Minister. 

Chairman OBC Welfare Board, Shri Chander Kumar while speaking on the occasion said that the Congress Party was committed to develop Jawali assembly segment, as a model constituency.

He  said the NDA government had failed to control the rising prices of petrol and pulses. He said that the international price of petrol and diesel was $35 per barrel which amounts to Rs.12  per litre and was cheaper than the water which was Rs 15 a litre, but the NDA government had failed to provide petrol and pulses at cheaper rates. The NDA has also failed on National Security front and for the very reason we witnessed terrorists attack in Pathankot and Dinanagar, he said. 

Earlier, the Chief Minister paid visit to the house of martyr Shri Sanjeevan Rana at Sehwan village, who sacrificed his life for the sake of Nation in recent Pathankot terrorist attack.  The Chief Minister assured that government would consider to rename Shahpur Degree College in the name of martyr Shri Sanjeevan Rana, as was requested by Vice Chairman, State Forest Development Corporation Shri Kewal Singh Pathania.

MPP and Agriculture Minister, Shri Sujan Singh Pathania,  Vice-Chairman Forest Corporation, Shri Kewal Singh Pathania, Ex-MLA, Shri Surinder Kaku, Secretary, District Congress Committee, Shri Pradeep Verma, Pradhan Kotla Gram Panchayat, Shri Yog Raj, were also present on the occasion amongst others
