DHARMSHALA---Himachal Pradesh Health Minister Kaul Singh Thakur will attend the 46th Union World Conference on Lung Health, to be held in Cape Town in South Africa from December 2 to December 6.
The conference is being organised by the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease. Singh has been invited in view of spectacular achievements of Himachal Pradesh in curbing use of tobacco, considered to be a major cause of lung diseases.
The conference theme is "A New Agenda: Lung Health Beyond 2015", which reflects the changing landscape of global public health, and the new era of action that the world will embark on together in the coming years. Thakur, who would leave for Cape Town today, would also give presentation on measures taken to reduce use of tobacco and tobacco products in the state.
The five-day event will address how these new agendas will influence the inter-related fights against tuberculosis, HIV, lung disease and non-communicable diseases, as well as the global campaign for tobacco control. PCL SMN
