
Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister said that Rs. 40 lacs would be spent over the new college building of Thakur Jagdev Chand Memorial Government Degree College, Sujanpur Tihra in district Hamirpur to create quality educational infrastructure in the area. He was addressing the 7th Annual Function of Thakur Jagdev Chand Memorial Government Degree College, Sujanpur Tihra in district Hamirpur today. He also distributed prizes and commendation certificates to meritorious students of the college. Chief Minister exhorted the students to make best use of time and study hard to achieve distinction and outstanding results so that they could reach heights in their future endeavours. Prof. Dhumal said that technology was changing very fast and students needed to keep pace with the latest innovation so that their future was secured. He said that efforts would be made to focus on imparting vocational education. He said that State Government would focus its attention over the quality infrastructure building so that congenial academic atmosphere was created to help students carry forward their academic pursuits. He said that all the educational institutions were being consolidated and adequate infrastructure was being created to cater to the educational needs of the students. He said that in the age of competition and par excellence, global standards would be followed in education sector. Chief Minister said that State Transport buses were operating all over the State under heavy losses and no increase had been made for the last five years. He said that State had enhanced the fare only 25 percent against the price increase of 59 percent in all the essential components like fuel, tyres, tubes, wages and other inputs. He said that State Government had been putting best efforts to burden public the least. Prof. Dhumal said that motive behind merger of two private colleges of the town earlier was to protect the interests of the students and teachers. He said that the college had been named after prominent leader of the area Thakur Jagdev Chand as a tribute to him.Chief Minister congratulated the award winning students. A variety cultural programme was also presented by the college students to mark the occasion. Smt. Urmil Thakur, local MLA thanked the Chief Minister for opening degree college in government sector in the area which had benefited the students in getting higher education near their homes. She urged for filling up vacancies in the college on priority. Shri Vir Vijay Singh, Principal read out the annual report.Shri Nitin Guleria, President, College SCA presented demand charter. Chief Minister was presented a contribution of Rs. 5100 towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund by Shri VV S Dogra, Principal, Thakur Jagdev Chand Memorial Government Degree College, Sujanpur Tihra on behalf of the college staff. Rs. 2100 contribution was also presented towards Chief Minister’s Relief Fund on behalf of Government Senior Secondary School, Sujanpur. Shri I.D. Dhiman, Education Minister, Shri Anil Thakur, BJP Mandal President, Ms. Nandita Gupta, Deputy Commissioner, Shri Asif Jalal, Superintendent of Police, Shri J.R. Katwal, Director, Information and Public Relations, Dr. O.P. Sharma, Director, Education, Shri Prem, PTA President, Shri Rajender Rana, BJP Spokesperson and other prominent people were present on the occasion.
