Nisha Singh presides over the meeting for special drive on prevention of Drug abuse

Shimla-----------Social Justice and Empowerment Department organised a meeting for special drive on prevention of drug abuse in the state, chaired by Additional Chief Secretary  Nisha Singh, here today.

Nisha Singh said that the penetration of drug abuse in our society needs to be mitigated instantly. She said that a state wide campaign to spreading mass awareness pertaining to substance abuse was being launched from 15th November and continue up to 15th December,2019. The campaign gives the message to refrain from drugs. She directed the nodal officers of all line departments to organise activities in coordinated manner for successful implementation of the campaign. 

Smt Singh said that strategies such as preventive, curative, punitive, counselling, rehabilitation and mainstreaming of the issue should be prepared to tackle the drug menace. She directed the Panchayati Raj Institutions and NGO's to ensure that the campaign reaches up to grass root level. Police department was also directed to tighten the noose around the drug peddlers, particularly around public places and educational institutions.

Parents play a vital role in shaping the future of the children and must develop a rapport with their child, so that the child could feel free to communicate with their parents, without any hesitation of sorts rather than getting involved in drugs. She directed the educational institutions to organise creative activities so that it provides direction to the distracted youth.

Nisha Singh said that along with Government educational institutions, the private institutions should also be roped in for the de-addiction campaign and counseling of children. She said that Parent-Teacher activities must also take place and parents should be educated about the symptoms of drug abuse among children, so that they can also monitor the undergoing change of their child.

Senior officers of Social Justice and Empowerment and nodal officers of all line departments were also present in the meeting.
