SHIMLA--------The High Court of H.P. today directed State Government to file status report in the matter of torturing an old lady of Village Samahal of Sarkaghat, District Mandi, on the suspicion of her being a sorceress.
The Division Bench comprising of the Chief Justice L.Narayana Swamy and Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua passed these orders on a petition taken up suo moto by the Court as Public Interest Litigation on a news item published in various news papers on 10/11.11.2019, regarding a 80 year old woman, who was mistook as a sorceress, thrashed and paraded through Samahal Village in Sarkaghat of Mandi District, with blackened face and shoes' garland, by the religious fanatics. It was also reported that she was threatened to face the wrath of local deity, in case she approaches the police to make complain
The Court posted the matter for 18.11.2019.
