Agriculture Department promoting natural farming in Himachal: Agriculture Minister

SHIMLA---------Following the success of pilot project of sale outlet of natural farming produce opened at HP Secretariat in Shimla, the Agriculture Department is planning to open more such sale outlets at Mandi and Una.

Disclosing this here today, Agriculture Minister Ram Lal Markanda said that presently the sale outlet in HP Secretariat is functioning twice a week and this frequency would be increased in future depending upon the demand of consumers. He said that weekly markets of natural farming produce are already functioning at Auhar of district Bilaspur and in Chamba.

The Agriculture Minister said that the aim of natural farming is to reduce the cost of cultivation and make farming more profitable besides promoting cultivation of multiple crops. He said that natural farming helps in protecting our environment by improving the soil fertility besides decreasing the cost of production thus improving the economic condition of the farmers.

He said that the State Government is committed towards promoting natural farming in the state and in this direction, Agriculture Department has been providing necessary training to farmers.

Ram Lal Markanda said that under Prakritik Kheti Khushhal Kissan Yojana (PKKKY), target has been fixed to train 50,000 farmers during the current year of which more than 20,000 farmers have so far been trained of which more than 15,000 farmers have already started practicing natural farming in their fields. He said that the PKKKY would help in achieving in the target set by the government to double the income of farmers by 2022.
