Chief Minister to launch campaign against drug abuse on 5 December

SHIMLA---      Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur will launch a campaign against drug abuse on 5 December, 2018 at Baddi in Solan district.

       Additional Chief Secretary Home Manoj Kumar revealed this while presiding over a preparatory meeting in this regard here today. He asked the concerned departments to make all pre-arrangements for success of this campaign.

            He directed the education department to hold talks in morning school assemblies and organising essay writing, painting and debate competitions on drug menace to make students aware about ill effects of drugs. He said that rallies should also be organised for making general public aware about drug abuse. He said that NGOs, representatives of local bodies including Beopar Mandals etc. should be involved in it.

            Manoj Kumar said that the issue of supply of ill legal drugs and abuse of legal drugs is emerging as a major problem in the State which is creating health challenges especially for the young generation and school going children. He said that fight against drug abuse is priority agenda of State Government. He said that problem of drug abuse can be solved by awareness, prevention and support efforts by all stake holders.

            He said that to generate awareness the State Government has decided to launch a state vide systematic and focused drive. He said that the goal of such drive is to make the public understand the causes of drug abuse and to prevent it at the very onset. He said that an effective mass media campaign will be launched to sensitize the people about drug abuse.

            Director Information & Public Relations Harbans Singh Brascon, Director Language Art and Culture, representatives of Education, Police, Health and CEO BBNDA were present in the meeting.
