Nurpur Stadium To Be Named After Shaheed Wazir Ram Singh: CM

Nurpur, January 13, 2017-Himachal Pardesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has announced a local play ground located at Chaugan in Nurpur to be named after Shaheed Wazir Ram Singh, a great Himachali warrior, who fought tooth and nail with the British for the cause of his motherland. Presently, it is known as Nurpur Stadium.
The Chief Minister said that this stadium named after the great warrior would be developed on modern sport lines after keeping needs of the local people especially the youth in mind. Money would be no constraints as the state govt. was committed to provide latest sport facilities to the people. The state govt. had spent over Rs. 59 crore to develop sport infrastructure in the last four years and Rs.8.32 crore for holding of various sport activities in the state. 'My govt. has spent over Rs.5 (five) crore on promoting of the youth activities during this period', he added.
He added that to promote sport activities in Nurpur area, he announced construction of playgrounds at Akhla Muari, Kopra, Garli Khad, Sulaili, Kadroh and Kamnaloh and Kushti Akhara (wrestling ground) at Lamba Nallah to be built at a cost of Rs.10 lakhs each last evening. He wished that the youth of Nurpur area would earn laurels for the state in the time to come.
Virbhadra Singh said that 85 meritorious sportsperson were employed in different departments of the state govt. Five international medal winners of the 17th Asian Games held in South Korea were given cash prizes included the gold medal winner Ajay Thakur, Pooja Thakur and Kavita and silver medal winner Vijay Kumar and bronze medal winner Samresh Jang. Gold medal winners were awarded Rs.20 lakhs each while silver medalist Rs.10 lakhs and bronze medalist Rs, six lakh.
