Himachal Governor and CM mourn death of Pandit Gauri Shankar Prasad

SHIMLA-------Governor Smt Urmila Singh and Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh has condoled the death of social worker, veteran freedom fighter and former Minister of first State Cabinet Pandit Gauri Shankar Prasad. He breathed his last at his native place in Mandi district today. He was 94.

  Governor and Chief Minister prayed the Almighty to grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.

Born in 1920 in Mandi, Pandit Gauri Shankar Prasad after completing his education from Lahore joined the Praja Mandal movement in 1940-41 led by Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar.  Pandit Gauri Shankar Prasad joined the first Cabinet of Dr. Parmar as Public Works Minister in 1952.

In her condolence message to the bereaved family, Governor Smt. Urmila Singh said that Pandit Gauri Shankar Prasad was not only a freedom fighter but also played a pivotal role in ensuring separate identity for the State.

Chief Minister in his message to the bereaved family said that ‘Pandit ji’, as he was fondly called was a freedom fighter par excellence who was always concerned towards the upliftment of the poor and down trodden. He said that he also played a key role in ensuring welfare of the freedom fighters of the State. He said that for ‘Pandit ji’ joining politics was a social service and he would always be remembered for maintained high standards in politics.
