National Theatre Festival from 24th April to 29th April,14

SHIMLA--National level Theatre Festival  in the memory of renowned theatre personality Shri Manohar Singh will be organized  at Gaiety Theatre, Shimla from 24th April to 29th April, 2014.

Presiding over the Coordination Committee Meeting regarding organizing various events to celebrate “Shimla Celebrates-150 years as former Summer Capital of India”, Smt. Upma Chaudhary, Additional Chief Secretary said that elaborate arrangements will be made to make this grand success.

Smt. Upma Chaudhary said that on first day of the festival a play will be staged by the repertory company of National School of Drama named               ‘Khali Ki Khala’ and  on next day  i.e. 25th April Motley Mumbai will present ‘Ismat Aapa Ke Naam’ by Naseerudin Shah. In addition to this ‘Chhaya Shakuntalam’ by A.N. Panikkar, ‘Monepiya’ or ‘No Sex Please’ by Waman Kendre, ‘License’ by Neelam Mansingh Chowdhry and ‘When We Dead Awaken’/ Macbeth’ by Ratan Thiyam will be the main attractions of the festival.

She added that ‘Shimla Celebrates -150 Years of Summer Capital’ is being organized at hill queen Shimla, the Summer Capital of British Rule for the whole year. Mythological Ballets, Film Festival and display of Army Bands will be the other attractions of the celebrations.

Department of Language, Art and Culture in collaboration with Department of Tourism and Shri Ram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, Delhi will present Mythological Ballets Karan, Durga and Meera on 23rd, 24th and 25th May, 2014 respectively at IGMC auditorium, Shimla.

Film Festival in collaboration with Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India will be organized in the month of June from 18th to 25th June, 2014.  She said that programme on Independence Day i.e. 15th August, 2014, Army Band will regal the visitors with attractive performance.

Shri V.C. Pharka, Additional Chief Secretary said that during Shimla Music Festival from 25th September to 4th October, 2014, the  departments of Tourism, Language, Art and Culture and Punjabi Academy will hold the audience to take them in the world of music.

Christmas and New Year festivities would entertain the residents of Shimla and tourists from 25th December, 2014 to 1st January, 2015. Folk Dance Music would be the main attraction of the programme.

Shri Dinesh Malhotra, Deputy Commissioner, Shimla, Shri Mohan Chauhan, Director, Tourism, Shri Amarjeet Singh, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Shimla, Shri Arun Kumar, Director, Language, Art and Culture were also present in the meeting.
