Mahabharat Jay Utsava started with Traditional Thoda Dance of Himachal Pradesh at Indira Gandhi National Art Centre New Dehli today. As many as 700 Folk Artists from all over the country, including 65 Folk dancers of Shathi “The Kauravs” and Pashi “The pandavas” from Shillaghoond and Rajana villages of Shimla District, are participating in this National Mahabharat Utsava. This Utsav will continue for a month.
Dr. Tulsi Raman, Secretary, Himachal Academy of Art, Culture & Language, said today at New Delhi that, besides Traditional Thoda Dances of Himachal, Stalls of international fame Chamba Rumal. Miniature Pahari Painting and Musada of Chamba are also being exhibited in the National Mahabharat Utsava. He said that Traditional Thoda Dance has become the main attraction of National festival. He said that Pandawayan Folk Singing Art of Shillai area of Sirmour is also being performed daily in the festival.
Dr. Raman said that an exhibition of photographs of Pandav related monuments and temples of Himachal Pradesh have also been set up in the festival in which memoirs of Pandvas in Himachal have been displayed widely. He said that this is for the first time when such a large participation of traditional folk arts of Himachal is being shown in this National Festival. These Folk art monuments of Himachal has become great concern and main attraction to the historians and Cultural experts of the nation and aboard, he added. The research papers on Pandavkaleen Traditional Thoda Dance and Pandvayan Singing Art of Himachal are also being presented in the National Seminars in which over a hundred Scholars and Art Experts from all over the country are participating.
Dr. O.C. Handa, Dr. Lalita Kaushal and Dr. Tulsi Raman also presented research papers on Thoda play, Pandvayan and Pandav temples in Himachal.
