
Thousands of people carrying ceremonial scarves (khatag) accorded warm welcome to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who arrived in Sarnath yesterday to give a five-day teaching series from 12 – 16 January.
VARANASI: His Holiness was received at airport by director of the Central University of Tibetan Studies (CUTS), Ven Ngawang Samten, organisers of the teaching and Kalon Dongchung Ngodup.
Thousands of people, including Tibetans and Buddhist devotees, holding immaculate white Khatag were standing outside the university's entrance to welcome His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
As His Holiness enters inside the university compound, he was welcomed by heads of the monastic community led by Gaden Tripa Rinpoche and two Sharjhang Choeje Rinpoche. A group of CUTS students performed auspicious Tashi Sholpa dance.
A group of monks playing monastic clarinet and carrying incense sticks then ushered His Holiness into the palace.
His Holiness will preach Shantideva’s A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life (chodjug) & Kamalashila’s The Middling States of Meditation (gomrim barpa). The teachings will be held near the Central University of Tibetan Studies.
