Jawalamukhi --- The 62 nd Raising Day of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) was celebrated with great enthusiasm today at the Central Training Center sapri near Jawalamukhi in district Kangra of Himachal Pradesh. Sanjay Singhal , Director General Shastra Seema Bal (SSB) presided over the function.
He inspected the parade and took salute from the SSB contingents in an impressive Parade ceremony of SSB. The Parade was led by Parade Commander Commandant Sanjeev Kumar. Earlier, DGP paid emotional tributes to the martyrs of the force at the SSB Martyrs Memorial in Sapri.
Earlier, Mr. Singhal, commended the services being rendered by the SSB contingents on the frontiers of the nation.
He said that the SSB had been rendering yeoman service in guarding the national boundaries and lending its helping hand to civil administration during emergency and natural calamities like carrying out relief and rehabilitation to the affected people. He said that SSB believed in nation building and an organization which had connected the people residing in the inaccessible areas with the mainstream.
He said that the medical and veterinary services being delivered by SSB para medics had helped in making available immediate health facilities for which people of those areas always remember the SSB. He said that it had been carrying out commendable duties in odd hours also.
Originally raised in 1963 in the aftermath of the 1962 India-China conflict, the SSB is one of India's central armed police forces under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The SSB is primarily tasked with guarding the 2450-kilometre-long Indian border with Nepal and Bhutan, as well as performing internal security duties, conducting anti-smuggling operations, and responding to disasters.
Over the decades, the SSB has played a crucial role in maintaining border security, fostering a sense of security among border populations, and supporting civil administration during emergencies. The annual Raising Day ceremony honours the dedication and sacrifices of the force's personnel and reaffirms its commitment to national security.
The SSB has also proactively stopped the narcotics smuggling, human trafficking, arms smuggling and infiltration of anti-national elements at the border. The force also plays an important role in making the entire eastern region Naxal-free, in coordination with the Central Reserve Police Force and the local police.
