Governor flags-off vehicles carrying relief material

SHIMLA---------Governor Bandaru Dattatraya, who is also the Chairman of the State Red Cross Society, today flagged-off seven vehicles carrying relief material for disaster-affected families. These vehicles have been sent to the District Red Cross branches through State Red Cross. Dr. Sadhna Thakur, President of the State Red Cross Hospital Welfare Branch was also present on the occasion.

The Governor said that under the disaster relief fund in support of International Red Cross Federation, this relief material would be given through the District Red Cross branches in 12 districts of the state. Relief material includes tarpaulins, kitchen utensils etc. to the affected families. He said that about 23 lakh rupees have been spent on this.

He said that Red Cross was doing pioneering work in the State through its various branches. Whether it is to provide free medicines or medical care to poor people or to help those suffering from natural disasters, Red Cross has always proved to be helpful in difficult circumstances.

Dr. Sadhna Thakur said that even at the district level, Red Cross was serving the suffering humanity and such relief material was sent to the districts in advance so that early preparations could be made to help the people during any disaster.

Secretary to Governor Rakesh Kanwar, officers from district administrations and officials of State Red Cross were also present on the occasion.
