'Startup Yatra' culminates at Mandi

SHIMLA--The Startup India Himachal Pradesh Yatra, organised by government of India in close association with government of Himachal Pradesh culminated today at Mandi. With the objective to create self-employment and employment, upgrading the skills of entrepreneurs and to provide them support to set up their units under professional guidance, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur had launched this Yatra from Shimla on 15 November, 2015.

            The grand finale of the Startup Yatra was held on Friday at IIT, Mandi where cash prizes comprising of Rs. 40,000, Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 were given out for the most innovative idea in the categories of agriculture, technology, social entrepreneurship and ideas by women entrepreneurs.

            The 'Startup Hero of the State' award comprising of award money of rupees one lakh was also given to Sudershna Kumari, who's ideas was to use pine needles to create rural handicrafts. .

            The Yatra passed through various educational institutions of Shimla, Solan, Sirmour, Hamirpur, Kangra, Chamba, Kullu, and Mandi districts. The people were sensitised about the 'Startup India Scheme' of Government of India and 'CM Startup Scheme' of Himachal Pradesh government.

            During the yatra, 1450 people registered at the Van Stops and 1541 people registered at the respective boot camps. Overall, 67 pitches qualified for the acceleration programme held at IIT, Mandi.
