SHIMLA-----The High Court of H.P. took a serious note  on the news item published in daily news papers dated  5th January, 2018,  regarding felling of five more trees in the area of Ramnagar, Shimla.  The Court  has directed  the Divisional Forest Officer(Urban), Shimla and the Counsellor of Ram Nagar, Shimla to be  present in the Court on  9th January, 2018, i.e. next date of hearing. During hearing of the petition,  the Additional Advocate General assured the  Court  that the concerned officer shall forthwith visit the spot and take appropriate action, in accordance with law.

A Division Bench comprising Hon'ble the Acting  Chief Justice Sanjay Karol  and Justice Ajay Mohan Goel passed these orders on a petition taken up suo moto  on an application moved  by the people of Ram Nagar, who had alleged that they are fighting for saving the thick forest surrounding Ram Nagar, but in these days there is a trend that with the advanced technology, the trees are cut down within a minute and thereafter, taken away from the spot living no proof behind.  The petitioners had also alleged in the petition that on the midnight of 13.07.2017, some of the trees were also cut down. But when the complaint in this regard was made, thereafter, on the interference of the Forest Officer, many of the trees were saved from cutting.  The petitioners had requested to issue direction to the Forest Department to take strict action against the persons involved in the activities of cutting such trees and also to mark each and every tree in Ram Nagar so that the green trees of Devdar and Baan can be saved from the clutches of these miscreants.  However, another instance of  felling of trees in the Ram Nagar area was brought to the notice of the Court through news item published in various hindi daily newspapers dated 5th January, 2018.
