A Full Court Reference was held today in the High Court to mourn the sad demise of Justice Adarsh Sein Anand

SHIMLA------A Full Court Reference was held today in the High Court to mourn the sad demise of Justice Adarsh Sein Anand, former Chief Justice of India, who passed away on 01.12.2017 after suffering from a massive heart attack at Noida and Justice Surinder Sarup, former Judge, High Court of Himachal Pradesh, who also passed away on 01.12.2017.

          The proceedings were conducted by the Registrar General Shri Rajeev Bhardwaj. 

Speaking on the occasion, Hon'ble the Acting Chief Justice Mr. Sanjay Karol said that Justice Adarsh Sein Anand, was a great jurist and an eminent scholar, who was elevated as the Additional Judge of High Court of Jammu and Kashmir at the age of 39 years.  He rendered many landmark judgments in the field of gender equality and human rights. Justice Karol also said that Justice Anand had great zeal to protect human rights and as such he was also elected as Chairperson of National Human Rights Commission in the year 2003. Justice Anand was awarded Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award in India,  in  year 2008 for his contribution  to the society.

On the sad demise of Justice Surinder Sarup, Hon'ble the Acting Chief Justice Sanjay Karol, said that Justice Sarup had a great experience in the field of law and was known for his mannerism.  He said that he had a great love for cricket.    Justice Karol remained as Judge of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh from 6.4.1996 to 20.04.2000. He also remained the President of H.P. State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission from 14.03.2000 to 19.04.2005.  Justice Karol also paid condolence to the families of the deceased Hon'ble Judges.

Shri Shrawan Dogra, Adovcate General and Chairman, Bar Council of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Ashok Sharma, Assistant Solicitor General of India and Shri B.M.Chauhan, President, Bar Association, H.P. High Court  also paid tributes to Justice Adarsh Sein Anand and Justice Surinder Sarup.

Two minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the departed souls.

Judges of Himachal Pradesh High Court Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary, Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Justice Sureshwar Thakur, Justice Vivek Singh Thakur, Justice Ajay Mohan Goel, Justice Sandeep Sharma and Justice Chander Bhusan also attended the full court reference.

          Registrar General Sh. Rajeev Bhardwaj, Registrar Vigilance, Shri Arvind Malhotra, District & Sessions Judge(Leave Reserve) Shri Rakesh Kainthla, Registrar Judicial Sh. J.K. Sharma, Registrar Rules Sh. Prem Pal Ranta, Shri Piar Chand, Registrar Establishment, Shri Davinder Chopra, Registrar Accounts, CPC Sh. P.S. Arora, members of High Court Bar Association and employees of High Court Registry were also present on the occasion.


           Brief  history of Hon'ble Justice A.S.Anand.

 Justice Anand remained as Chief Justice of India from  10.10.1998 to 31.10.2001.  He was born on 1.11.1936 in Jammu, J&K.  He graduated from Jammu and Kashmir University in 1958 , did L.L.B. from Lucknow University and got doctorate degree from London University in 1963. He had lucrative practice in Punjab & Haryana High Court at Chandigarh and at the age of 38 years and six months, he was appointed as Additional Judge of Jammu & Kashmir High court on 26.5.1975 and confirmed as a permanent Judge of the same Court in February, 1976. He was appointed as Acting Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir High Court on 26.5.1984, Chief Justice of the same High Court on 11.5.1985 and transferred as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Judicature at Madras with effect from 1.11.1989. He was elevated to the Bench of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India in November, 1991.


 Brief  history of Hon'ble Justice Surinder Sarup

Justice Surinder Sarup had passed away on 01.12.2017.  He remained as Judge of Himachal Pradesh High Court from 06.04.1996 to 20.04.2000 He was born on 21.4.1938. He was  enrolled as Advocate on the 18.10.1962. Practised in Punjab and later on in the Joint Punjab and Haryana High Court. He was selected in the Haryana Superior Service in December, 1977. He also worked as Additional District & Sessions Judge, District & Sessions Judge, Legal Remembrancer and Secretary to the Govt. of Haryana and as Registrar, Punjab & Haryana High Court. He was appointed as a permanent Judge of the Punjab & Haryana High Court on 20.6.1994 and transferred to Patna High Court on 21.7.1994. He was retransferred to Himachal Pradesh High Court on 06.04.1996 and retired on 21.4.2000.
