Shimla---The Himachal Pradesh Remote Sensing Center (HPRSC) of the Himachal Pradesh State Council for Science Technology & Environment(SCSTE) in collaboration with Indian Institute of Remote Sensing(IIRS) of Indian Space Research Organisation( ISRO) jointly organized a one-day State level Meet with line departments of HP State on 23rd September 2016 at HP Secretariat, Shimla. The theme of the meet was "Promoting Space Technology based Tools and Applications in Governance & Development in the State of Himachal Pradesh". The State Meet is a follow-up of the National Meet which was held on 7th September 2015 at New Delhi under the Chairmanship of Hon'ble Prime Minister of India. The objective of the State Meet is to identify the requirements of Space Technology (Remote Sensing), GIS (Geographic Information System), GPS (Global Positioning System) and Communication technology in natural resources management, disaster management, development planning and better governance.
Around 40 Himachal Pradesh Government Departments, State functionaries, Scientists, National and State level experts from ISRO, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, National Remote Sensing Centre and other concerned stakeholders participated in the meet. The one-day State Level Meet provided opportunity to different government departments to showcase the current usage of space technology in the respective departments as also to prepare an action plan for securing future benefits of space technology in the development of the State. The Meet was inaugurated by Honorable Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh,
Sh. V.C. Pharka. The Chief Secretary urged all the departments to increase the use of Space technology in the process of planning, execution in development activities. Thereafter various State Departments presented their programmes/activities and deliberated upon the future use of space technology in the nine, theme based parallel technical sessions.
The nine important themes were agriculture, land resources planning, environment and energy, infrastructure planning, water resources, health and education, weather and disaster management, developmental planning, technology diffusion, communication and navigation. The technical sessions were moderated by the subject experts and senior scientists from ISRO and HPRSC who provided success stories of use of space technology & GIS in various specific fields and by other State Governments in India. Dr. A. S. Kiran Kumar, Secretary, Department of Space (DOS) and Chairman, ISRO joined the Inaugural session and addressed the participating Departments through video conferencing. The State level meet provided a unique opportunity for forty departments of the State to frame the potential action plan for increased use of space technology for better governance and rapid development of the State.
Additional Chief Secretary(Personnel, Power) Sh. Tarun Shridhar, Principal Secretary(Environment, Science & Technology) Sh. Tarun Kapoor, Director IIRS, Dehradoon, Director (Env. Science & Technology) Sh.Ajay Kumar Lal and Sh. Kunal Satyarthi, Joint Member Secretary, State Council for Science, Technology & Environment were present in the inaugural session.
