SHIMLA----High Court of Himachal Pradesh directed the respondents to file status report regarding the encroachments made on Shimla-Dharamshala National Highway. The court also directed the respondents to file the report in terms of the previous orders made by the court. It was also made clear by the court that no encroachment and no construction be allowed in violation of the sanctions granted. The Court further directed the Superintending Engineer, Sewerage Circle, Shimla, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India and Regional Officer, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Chandigarh to remain present before the court on 20th October, 2016

A Division Bench comprising of the Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Sandeep Sharma passed these orders on a petition taken up suo moto by the Court as Public Interest Litigation on a news item published in news papers Amar Ujala in year 2014 regarding illegal encroachment on the road side on National Highway. The state had filed status report in this matter, in which, the details of all the encroachers, which have made encroachments at Barog and all the National Highways was given.
