ACS advises to take precautionary measures for monsoon

SHIMLA--Additional Chief Secretary Revenue, Shri Tarun Shridhar said here today that good rainfall was expected in the State this year which might start by the end of this month whereas pre-monsoon may come about ten days earlier, according to the prediction of Meteorological Department.
He said that timely preparedness for the impending monsoon was being ensured and alerts have been issued to all the concerned authorities across the State, regarding precautionary measures to be taken well in time to prevent and mitigate losses to human lives, livestock and property due to heavy rains. He stressed upon chalking out effective response strategy and contingency plans.
He also directed the authorities to ensure alternate arrangements for shifting people living near rivers and rivulets to safer places as incidents of floods and cloud bursts may occur in the State during rainy season bringing heavy losses to life and property. Taking timely precautionary measures can avert such losses, he added.
He directed all the Deputy Commissioners to issue advisory to the people in their respective districts during the rainy season besides ensuring preparedness to tackle any such calamity.
He also stressed upon paying special attention for cleaning of water channels, nullahs, removal of blockages, pre-monsoon de-siltation and encroachments from drainage systems and flood plains so that there is no break down of essential services. He asked to take preventive steps to ensure that there is no outbreak of epidemics.
