Strict vigil on Ultrasound clinics: DHS&R

602 inspections conducted within State

Awareness campaigns needed for eradicating social evils

SHIMLA--The provisions of Pre Conception & Pre Natal Diagnostic Test Act were being strictly followed in the State and stringent action was being taken against the clinics violating the Act, resulting in improvement in sex ratio in the State.

            Director Health Safety and Regulation (DHS&R) Captain Raman Kumar Sharma stated this in a meeting of State Advisory Committee, here today.

            He said that the State and District level committees conducted as many as 602 inspections of 265 ultra sound clinics operational in the State during 2015-2016 and warnings were issued for the short comings where as action was initiated against those violating the Act. He asked the concerned officers for conducting atleast four inspection of each clinic in a year. He said that as many as six appeals had been decided, where as few such appeals were sub judicious.

            Captain Raman said that various Government agencies were working towards bringing in improvement in the sex ratio. He said that mindset of people need to be changed towards girl child, simultaneously awareness campaign should be undertaken for eradication of social evils like female foeticide involving PRIs, NGOs and people in general.

            Nodal Officer PC&PNDT Dr. Mahesh Jaswal conducted the proceeding of the meeting.

            Prof. and Head Radiology IGMC DR. R.G. Sood, Dr. A. Pal, Joint Director Prosecution Shri Ashwani Dhiman, Dr. Awadhi Gupta from NRHM, Joint Director Health Dr. A.K. Gupta and Under Secretary Law Ms. Saroj Negi were amongst the committee members.
