NAHAN---The H.P. State Biodiversity Board organized a one day training workshop at Nahan on the occasion of International Biodiversity Day today at SFDA Hall, Nahan which was attended by stakeholders namely; members of Zila Parishad, Block Samiti and Panchayat Pradhans, Officers from Stakeholder Departments namely Forests, Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Ayurveda, Education Departments, Officers from District Administration and NGOs of Sirmour District. Approximated 250 participants attended the training workshop on Biological Diversity Act, 2002 and Rules in Sirmour District. Sh. Baldev Singh, Hon'ble District and Sessions Judge, Nahan, District Sirmaur, was the Chief Guest of the one day training workshop organized for celebration of the International Biodiversity Day.
Sh. Kunal Satyarthi, Joint Member Secretary, H.P State Biodiversity Board welcomed the Chief Guest and other participants and briefed the participating stakeholders about the purpose of the workshop and the importance of the Day and the need for training the members of the PRIs for implementation of Biological Diversity Act, 2002 and Rules. Sh. Ajay Kumar Lal, Director, Environment, Science and Technology, H.P–cum–Member Secretary, H.P. State Biodiversity Board gave opening remarks about the International Biodiversity Day and briefed the participants about the activities of the H.P State Biodiversity Board taken up for implementation of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 in the State. Special address was delivered by Sh. Y.P. Gupta, Conservator of Forests, Nahan Circle. He briefed the participants for taking up initiatives for conservation and sustainable use of the bio-resources at local body level in close association with line departments especially with Forest Department for the prosperity and posterity of Sirmaur District. Sh. Harban Singh Brascon, ADM Nahan in his address appreciated the role of HP State Biodiversity and for the selecting District Sirmour District for celebration of the International Biodiversity Day and implementation of BD Act, 2002 on pilot basis in Sirmour District.
Sh. Baldev Singh, Hon'ble District and Sessions Judge, Nahan -cum- Chief Guest while addressing the participants expressed the need for implementation of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 for conservation, sustainable use and sharing the benefits accruing out of the use of biological resources and traditional knowledge based on local bio-resources at the local body level as per the provisions enshrined in the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 & Rules, 2004 for prosperity and posterity of the state. Sh. Nishant Mandhotra, Divisional Forest Officer, Nahan gave vote of thanks. He thanked the Chief Guest for sparing his valuable time for participation in the one day training workshop and boosting the morale of the re prentative of the PRIs of district Sirmaur.
After the inaugural session two technical sessions for training the PRI participants were conducted. Sh. Ajay Kumar Lal, Member Secretary, H.P State Biodiversity Board, delivered lecture about biodiversity, importance of biodiversity, threats/issues, sustainable use and sustainable use. Sh. Kunal Satyarthi, Joint Member Secretary, HPSBB delivered lecture about the provisions of Biological Diversity Act, 2002 and Biological Diversity Rules, 2004 and its implication in conservation, sustainable utilization and benefits sharing accruing out of the use of biological resources and traditional knowledge based on local bioresources.
Dr. Pankaj Sharma and Dr. Dushyant Shrama, Scientific Professionals, elaborated about formation of Biodiversity Management Committees (BMC) at Local Body level, their role in implementation of Biological Diversity Act, 2002 and creation of Peoples Biodiversity Registers (PBR;). Skit on biodiversity was performed by the students of Senior Secondary School, Moginand, District Sirmour. Detailed discussions were held with the participants and the Resource Persons from HPSBB responded to the queries of the participants. The Panchayat Pardhans of District Sirmour were requested to constitute BMC; for preparation of Biodiversity Registers at the Panchyats level. The participants were thanked finally by Sh. K. Kaisth, Principal Scientific Officer, HPSBB O/o State Council for Science Technology & Environment, H.P. for their enthusiastic participation.
