HP leads in coverage of health facilities on population basis- Minister

Shimla---Kaul Singh Thakur, Health and Family Welfare Minister met Health Minister of Rajasthan Shri Rajender Singh Rathore at Jaipur today. Agriculture Minister Shri Sujan Singh Pathania accompanied him. Both the Ministers discussed various initiatives taken by their respective Governments to strengthen health sector.
Shri Kaul Singh Thakur said that Himachal Pradesh Government had made concrete efforts to provide best health services to the people of the State at their door steps during last three years and expansion of health institutions was ensured alongwith providing infrastructure facilities. Himachal Pradesh has emerged as a leading State on health indicators, he added.
The Health Minister said that with the strengthening of health sector on above parameters, the State was leading on the basis of population in coverage of health facilities. He said that there was a health sub centre for 2990 persons in the State whereas National average is 5615 persons. Similarly, one primary health centre for 12921 persons against the National average of 34641, one community health centre for 80208 persons against the National average of 1.72 lakh persons. He said that Himachal Pradesh Government was spending Rs. 26000 per person on health services annually which was the highest in the country.
Shri Thakur said that there was one doctor for 12391 persons in the State and added that three new medical colleges and one AIIMS were being set up to strengthen the health sector.
The Health Minister further said that Universal Health Protection Scheme had been started in the State under which those persons who were not covered under National Health Bima Scheme and Mukhya Mantri State Health Scheme have been covered.
Shri Kaul Singh Thakur studied the working of Health Department and Medical University of Rajasthan.
Officers of Health Departments of Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan were present in the meeting.
