Government committed to promote rural sports: CM

SHIMLA---The State Government was committed to develop adequate sports infrastructure in the state and outdoor and indoor stadiums were being constructed particularly in rural areas so as to provide basic sports infrastructural facilities to the youth.
Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh stated this today while addressing public meetings at Kumarhatti and Bohli, in Kasauli assembly constituency, in Solan District.
He said that every panchayat and school would have a playground so that best of talents may come up from rural areas to represent state at various National and International sport events.
The sports should be used for maintaining and retaining health and not for personal gains, he said adding that it was seen in recent past that most of the games got defamed due to betting. The bookies bet on amount which could not be exactly ascertained, but in the process the players and the sport gets defamed, which was not in the interest of Nation and sports as well, he added.
Shri Virbhadra Singh said that as far as Himachal was concerned, Volley-ball, Kabaddi and Wrestling were quite popular and most played games. The modern games came at a much later stage but still the most popular were the village wrestling bouts, volleyball and other games, which needed to be promoted. He said that sports platforms should not be politicised and should be free from any controversies and discrepancies. Games should be played with a true spirit of sportsmanship and discipline, he added.
Earlier, he inaugurated the strengthening and improvement of Kanda-Katal-ka-Bagh road amounting to Rs 5.33 crore, dedicated Rs 3.46 crore Grauni to Bohdon-Sari road and Joharji-Kaba-Kalan road completed at a cost of Rs. 1.42 crore.
He also laid foundation stone of Multipurpose Sports Stadium at Kumarhatti to be constructed at a cost Rs 2.12 crore and 33 KV Sub-station at Gandhi Gram to cost Rs five crore which would facilitate the population of 50 thousand of as many as 50 villages of 11 panchayats.
He dedicated the newly upgraded Shaheed Sikander Government Senior Secondary School at Bohli named after Shri Sikander, who sacrificed his life during the Kargil war. He paid respect to the parents of Martyr, Sikander. He announced a sum of Rs. 20 thousand from his discretionary grant for promotion of cultural activities.
Shri Virbhadra Singh said that education was among the top priority sectors of the State government, adding that all the educational institutions were preferred to be opened in rural areas, especially to benefit the girl child. "I want a well educated society and a large amount of the State budget was being spent on education. "Education is the base for a developed society and an important ingredient for personality development", said the Chief Minister.
He said that the Government would fill up all the vacant posts in government schools and in coming future each school would be provided with adequate teaching staff. This would give ample opportunities of jobs to the younger generation.
He said every college would have a music teacher and a tabla master and similarly in all plus two schools music teachers would be provided in a phased manner. He said that it was essential to have a physical education teacher in all schools above middle and the Government was working in this direction.
Later, he also inspected the on-going work of stadium at Kandaghat.
Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr. (Col) Dhani Ram Shandil while addressing on the occasion, thanked the Chief Minister for upgrading as many as 20 schools and four colleges in the district. He lauded the efforts of the Chief Minister for being available to the people round the clock and redressing their grievances and satisfying them. He also welcomed the parents of Martyr Sikander, Shri Mahinder Singh and Smt Nirmala, on the occasion. The Minister said that development was a continuous process and it takes time to complete the projects.
The Minister said various welfare initiatives had been taken by the government for welfare of poor and needy and credited the development to the present and previous congress governments under the leadership of Shri Virbhadra Singh.
Vice-Chairman State Khadi Board, Shri Ramesh Chauhan, said that the allegations by Shri Rajeev Saijal the sitting MLA from Kasauli constituency, that the roads already in use were being inaugurated by the Chief Minister were baseless. He said that the sitting MLA never ever cared for the development of the area and never took up welfare issues with the Government.
Shri Chauhan said that Shri Saijal was also invited to attend the functions, but he failed to turn up and instead conducted a press conference to criticise the development tour of the Chief Minister. He said that he wanted to remind him that all these projects were approved by previous Congress Government. The sitting MLA also failed to identify land for 33 KV sub station which was pending since long. The work on PHC at Patta Brawari was started in 2006, but the BJP could not complete its work in five years of its regime. The present MLA also tried to shift the PHC at Subathu to Thadi but it did not get operationalised and notified till date despite the fact the villagers had given land for it. He advised Shri Saijal to confirm
the facts before ridiculing and added that he should have come in the functions and taken up the issue of those displaced, whose land was taken over by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
General Secretary, HPCC Shri Vinod Sultanpuri said the sitting MLA never met the Chief Minister during past three years and never tried to discuss the development issue with him. Now, he was conducting press conferences to be in limelight and remain alive in Media. The money had come for improving and strengthening the roads of which the Bhoomi Pujan was done, he clarified.
