CM announces separate cell for nurses in DHS

Shimla---Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh while presiding over the closing ceremony of International Nurses Day at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) announced a separate cell for nurses in Directorate of Health Service (DHS) and said that a separate block would be constructed in DHS so that they could have their own office. 

            He also announced to enhance the diet allowance as per the demand of nurses from Rs. six to Rs. 25.  He also announced to regularise the services of contract and Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) nurses who had completed five years of contractual service and also announced that the RKS nurses would be kept on contract.   

            He said that the Government was committed to strengthen health infrastructure in rural areas of the State so that quality health services may be provided to the people at their door steps. Steps were also being taken to fill all the vacant posts in far flung and rural areas of the State, said Shri Virbhadra Singh, adding that more health institutions were either being upgraded or opened in such areas.

            Set up in 1966, IGMC,  known as Snowdown hospital earlier, today stands as a well established centre of research and quality health services, fully equipped  with modern tools and machinery, he said. 

            "Though much expansion has been done, yet the Government was working upon to set up a separate campus of the hospital in the suburbs of the town to cater to the needs of people", he said, adding that the process had been started to have a second campus of IGMC.

            He said that the new projects which are in pipe-line to strengthen the hospital were construction of new multi-storeyed OPD block near Auckland tunnel, a super speciality block and new block of Kamla Nehru Hospital. "Institutions don't stand up overnight, they are like a living organism, with certain set of targets and aims and it takes time to develop as perfect institutions", he said 

            The Government would provide all support and assistance to the hospital in times to come so that the patients may not have to go out of the State and spend enormously for treatment of critical ailments, he said. 

            He said that a separate State Hospital of Mother and Child was coming up in the campus of Kamla Nehru hospital which would be a part of IGMC.

            He said that the ESIC College at Ner Chowk in Mandi district would also be taken over by the government for which the dialogue was going on. He said that doctors and paramedical staff should work with dedication and develop human spirit in their working.  

            The Chief Minister also exhorted the nurses to follow the ideals of Florence Nightingale who devoted her life towards service of needy. 

            Health Minister Shri Kaul Singh Thakur, while speaking on the occasion said nurses had greater responsibility than doctors as they play an instrumental role in the care of patients. He also supported the demands of the nurses association. He said that 4025 posts of paramedical staff had been sanctioned besides 377 posts of nurses had been sent to Service Selection Board, Hamirpur to be filled to meet the shortage of Nurses in IGMC and Medical College in Nahan.

            He supported the demands of taking RKS nurses to be appointed on contract and thereafter regularising them after five years. He exhorted nurses to play a pivotal role in improving the sex ratio and said that sex ratio in Lahaul Spiti district of the state  was highest in the country as per 2011 census and stands as 1000/1033 (male/female)
