Announces upgradation of Civil Hospital Palampur

Dharamshala, 20 January - Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh today announced upgradation of bed capacity of civil hospital Palampur to 200 from existing 100. 

 He was addressing a public meeting in Gandhi Ground at Palampur on his fourth day of winter sojourn of Kangra district. 

While speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister termed Palampur as a 'Garden city' with salubrious and serene environment and a place endowed with natural grandeur and beauty.  He announced for expansion of three storey parking to five storeys at Palampur. 

The Chief Minister said that Dharamsala had become the second capital town after Shimla and was housing many important offices. Besides shifting Board of School Education to Dharamsala, which though faced lot of opposition, and further the move taken by the successive Congress governments just to facilitate the people of Kangra and nearby districts.

 "Vidhan Sabha in Dharamsala is symbolic of people power,  a symbol of equality and status which was a move for social integration", he said.  Why cant assembly sessions be held in Dharamsala", he questioned adding that it was far more important to set up  Vidhan Sabha in Dharamsala, besides at Shimla,  and  it was  a big step for, socio-political and emotional integration.   He said that the government was considering to set up convention centre in the premises of the Vidhan Sabha so that it could be utilised and earn during the lean period along with some other activities.  

He said that many people in the opposition tried to divide the people of the State on basis of caste and culture and area, forgetting that Himachal was a home to unique culture and customs and abode of Gods, who were inseparable part of the daily life of the hill people. He cautioned those who try to create rift between the people of the state. He said that India was a secular state supporting religions of all type and those who think to divide the people on basis of region and religion were the biggest enemies of independent India.

Chief Minister further said that a lot had been achieved in education sector. Recollecting the old days he said that when Himachal was formed it lacked basic facilities and there was only one inter college in Dharamsala only.  But with the passage of time Himachal developed in leaps and bounds. During the last three years of the present government 994 schools and 25 degree colleges had been opened thereby increasing the total school strength to 15534 in the government sector in the state and as many as 21 Industrial Training Institute had been opened to provide vocational education to the youth.  An Indian Institute Technology had come up in Mandi, besides Indian Institute of Management is coming up at Dhaula Kuan in Sirmaur.  

He further said that more than 28000 people were provided jobs in government sector and thousands were provided jobs in various industries in the State. The State Government has decided to fill up 25,000 new posts in next two years.

He said that Himachal has achieved 100 percent electrification. 

In health sector more than 100 health institutions have been opened, said Shri Virbhadra Singh and 610 posts of Doctors and specialists had been filled up. He said that besides Indira Gandhi Medical College and Dr Rajinder Prasad medical colleges, three new medical colleges were being opened in Chamba, Nahan and Hamirpur besides AIIMS like institute in Bilaspur in the State.

He said that 255 villages had been connected with link roads during last three years. Our endeavour  of the government was to connect every left-out village with road facility and 1415 kilometres of road has been constructed during last three years adding to the already existing road length of 34500 kilometres.

Earlier, Speaker Vidhan Sabha  Shri BBL Butail thanked the Chief Minister for dedicating projects worth over 12 crores in Palampur constituency. He detailed about the development activities which had taken place in the constituency. He also demanded circuit house for Palampur.   He exhorted the newly elected Panchayat representatives to utilise the funds wisely for development of their panchayats.
