SHIMLA------ The High Court of H.P. today directed State to file status report relating to the condition of diet being provided to the indoor patients in hospitals all over the state on or before 15th December, 2015

A Division Bench comprising the Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan passed these orders on a petition filed by Rajesh Kumar who had approached the court by way of writ petition and alleged that in the month of May – June, 2015 his relative was admitted into Civil Hospital, Nagar, Kullu and he was shocked to see the condition of the diet being provided to the indoor patient in the hospital. The petitioner had further alleged that he brought this fact to the notice of concerned authorities but no action was taken in this regard. The petitioner also sought information this regard under RTI Act, 2005 and it was found that the contract for providing diet services to indoor patients in the hospitals was given by violating the norms which resulted in such poorly prepared diet to the indoor patients.

The petitioner has prayed to issue direction to the respondents to strictly and duly follow the process of awarding  tenders for the work of cooked diet strictly while awarding the work contract as the health  is directly concerned with the welfare of state.

During the hearing of the matter it was observed by the court that matter is in the public interest and treated the same as Public Interest Litigation
