Governor stresses need for developing creative thinking in children

SHIMLA---Himachal Governor Acharya Devvrat inaugurated the Colloquia on Afforestation and Environmental Issues organized by the H.P. State Legal Services Authority (HPSLA) at H P High Court here, today. He also gave away prizes to the winners of State level painting slogan writing and essay writing competition organized by the authority in order to generate awareness about preserving the environment.
Addressing the gathering, Acharya Devvrat said that it was essential to involve children in creative activities to develop creative thinking in them since very young age. He said that all scientific inventions and discoveries were made by creative minds. He said that development in science was possible only when we encourage children to think and experiment freely. He further said that all great philosophers, saints and teachers were great thinkers which was also due to creative thinking.
The Governor said that responsibility of instilling good values in children and building a well mannered and responsible young generation rested with all of us. Our culture was widely known for rich knowledge, humane outlook and commitment towards welfare of society as a whole. He expressed concern that in present times, the human beings had become self-centred and were forgetting our concept of 'Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam' (the world is one family). He stressed the need to revive this spirit especially among children and youth so as to make future generation sensitive towards poor, needy and compassionate towards suffering humanity.
He said that children should develop positive thinking and confidence in order to excel in their lives and added that they should not be deterred by obstacles coming in their way but put in persistent efforts to achieve success. He urged them to abstain from drugs and intoxicants and participate in nation building activities for country's development.
The Governor lauded the initiatives of HPSLA and H.P. High Court in bringing awareness among children regarding environment protection.
He also visited the gallery exhibiting the paintings, slogans and essay writings and appreciated the ideas of children.
Chief Justice H P High Court Mansoor Ahmed Mir stressed upon the importance of environment protection and added that our ancient culture inspired us to have highest reverence towards mother nature. He said that children could be the best ambassadors to spread this message across all the sections of the society. The HPSLA had been involving children of all the schools of the state in its environment protection awareness campaigns. He said that legal community was contributing towards various social causes and with the involvement of schools, state government had planted about more than one lakh saplings across the state last year besides monitoring their survival rate.
Justice Sanjay Karol, Judge H P High Court and Executive Chairman H P State Legal Services Authority welcomed the Governor and briefed about the activities of HPSLA. He said that the Authority was actively participating in various awareness campaigns especially related to environment protection and afforestation programmes were also being launched across the state.
About 107 students of various schools of the state participated in the competition.
Judges of H P High Court Justice Rajiv Sharma, Justice Dharam Chand Choudhry, Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Justice Sureshwar Thakur, Shri Sharwan Dogra Advocate General, Shri Ashok Sharma Assistant Solicitor General, Former Judges, Additional Chief Secretaries, Advocates, members of Bar Association, Judicial officers were prominent among others present on the occasion.
