CM Flags off Disaster Awareness Rally

SHIMLA--- The State Government was contemplating setting up of State Disaster Response Force to meet out any eventuality at the time of any disaster. This was stated by Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh while flagging-off Awareness Rally comprising students of about 27 schools and four colleges of the city on the occasion of International Disaster Reduction Day from Oak Over here today. The rally culminated at The Ridge.
Shri Virbhadra Singh said that the State Government has written to the Centre Government regarding setting up of this Force keeping in view the disaster prone topography of the State. He said that in event of any disaster all the people should work unitedly to mitigate after effects. He said that youth could play a vital role at the time of any natural or man made disaster.
Chief Minister said that keeping in view the geographical conditions of the State, it was important that State has its own Disaster Response Force so that relief could be provided immediately without wasting time.
Deputy Country Director UNDP Ms Marina Walter, Member National Disaster Management Authority Shri Kamal Kishore, Special Secretary Revenue Shri D.D. Sharma, Superintendent Police Shimla Shri D.W. Negi were present on the occasion among others.
