Rs. 25 crore allocated for input subsidy to Himachal under NDRF

SHIMLA--With a view to provide relief to the farmers  who suffered losses in the last rabi season, Rs. 25 crore have been allocated for input subsidy to the Agriculture Department under National Disaster Relief Fund. It was  disclosed by Shri Sujan Singh Pathania, Agriculture Minister here today.
            Giving details of relief, Shri Pathania said that in the coming rabi season, all seeds would be provided to the farmers on 50% subsidy. The department proposes to distribute 55,000 quintals wheat seed, 400 quintals pulses and oilseeds, 8900 quintals pea seeds, 280 quintals vegetables seeds and 5000 quintals fodder seeds to the farmers. For distributing 70,000 quintals seeds, Rs. 16.50 crore have been allocated, he added.
            He said that besides this, the farmers shall also get 50% subsidy on pesticides and sprayers. The department has already received demand of 98.70 MT pesticides and 31,000 sprayers. He said that for providing 50% subsidy on pesticides and plant protection equipment, Rs. three crore have been allocated.
            In addition to this, the farmers will also be given 50% subsidy on improved farm implements and machinery like chaff cutter, seed bins, maize sheller, water tubs, SS Plough and other tools. About 30,000 improved implements/tools will be distributed on 50% subsidy for which Rs. two crore has been allocated. The Minister appealed to the farmers to contact their nearest agriculture office to avail the assistance announced by the Government.
            The Agriculture Minister further said that the department has started number of schemes to provide assistance to farmers  such as 85% assistance on polyhouses, 80% assistance on sprinkler/drip irrigation, 50% subsidy on borewell/shallow well, lift irrigation, water carrying pipes, 50% assistance on vermin beds. The farmers should avail assistance on all such schemes to increase their farm income, he said.
