Every household in ULB's to get sewerage connectivity: Sudhir Sharma

Shimla--   Urban Development Minister Sudhir Sharma said the department was making all out efforts to provide sewerage connectivity to all households in Urban Local Bodies (ULB's) of the state. He was presiding over a meeting of the officers of the Urban Development, Irrigation and Public Health department and Municipal Corporation Shimla, here today.
            He said the work on sewerage schemes in all 42 ULB's of the state was under progress and the special emphasis was being given on connectivity to each household and make these schemes functional at the earliest. A departmental coordination committee would be constituted under the chairmanship of concerned deputy commissioners to review and ensure the implementation of these schemes besides ensuring proper coordination between the line departments so that the work could be completed in stipulated time period.
            Shri Sudhir Sharma directed the Irrigation & Public Health department and Municipal Corporation Shimla to fix the targets for completion of sewerage schemes besides speeding up the work. He said I&PH department and M.C Shimla would work in coordination for executing the sewerage projects. He also directed to use the latest bio-digester technique in the sewerage projects.
            The Minister said a provision of Rs. 30 crore was being made for sewerage schemes every year and this year, He said Rs. 215.18 crore had been given to I&PH department for sewerage projects whereas six crores had been provided for operation and maintenance of the existing schemes. He said the surplus funds lying with the I&PH department would be taken back and spent on other sewerage schemes in the state.
            While reviewing the other schemes of the department, Shri Sudhir Sharma said efforts were being made to complete the schemes in a fixed time frame.
            Additional Chief Secretary (I&PH) Shri P.C Dhiman, Additional Chief Secretary (Urban Development) Smt. Manish Nanda, Director Urban Development Capt. J.M Pathania, Commissioner MC Shimla Shri Pankaj Roy and other senior officers attended the meeting.
