HPCC Chief expresses grief over Bipin Chandra's death

SHIMLA---Himachal Congress Chief Thakur Sukhvinder Singh  today expressed deep grief over the demise of 86 years old, Padma Bhushan awardee and a famous historian, Prof.  Bipin Chandra who passed away at his home in Gurgaon after prolonged illness. Mr Singh extended condolences to Chandra's family and prayed the Almighty to give peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family members to bear the irreparable loss.

He said that Shri Chandra was noted educationists, scholar and an academician of par excellence. He said that the void created by his death would be difficult to fill.

Prof. Chandra hailed from Kangra in Himachal Pradesh and had written many history books which formed part of school curriculum. Born in 1928, the octogenarian, Professor of History got his education from Christian College Lahore, Stanford University in United States and Delhi University.  He also remained Member of University Grant Commission, Chairperson of the Centre for Historical Studies, Chairman of the National Book Trust (NBT), besides many other International and National organizations.
