SHIMLA-----Himachal Pradesh University celebrated its 45th Foundation Day here today. Smt Urmila Singh Governor was the Chief Guest and Sh Virbhadra Singh Chief Minister presided over the function.
Congratulating the students, faculty members and staff of the University, Smt Urmila Singh underlined the importance of education. She said that education was the most powerful instrument to empower any society. She said that education develops progressive attitude in individuals besides equipping them with knowledge. However, the objective of educating individuals, achieves its real meaning, when they attain wisdom also in true sense, she added. She said that the values of patriotism, discipline, humanity etc should be inculcated in the students so that they grow up as sensitive and responsible human beings.
Governor said that ideal atmosphere should be provided to students in educational institutions so that the hidden potential of students could come to fore ensuring all round development of their personalities. Teachers had great responsibility in achieving this goal because they are considered as role models, she added. She said that teachers play an important role in nation building therefore must work with sincerity and dedication towards this task.
Smt Singh said that youth were the future architects of the nation and should come forward to play an active role in various awareness campaigns and for upliftment of under-privileged sections of the society. They should work for the betterment of the society by involving themselves in constructive activities, she said.
Both the Governor and the Chief Minister distributed awards to the best Teaching, Non-Teaching staff and researchers/scholars.
Amongst the Category of the Best Teacher Prof Girija Sharma and Prof Bhupinder Singh Marh were honoured on the occasion. Amongst the best researcher, the award was given to Prof Suarvecha Chauhan, In non teaching category Sh. Harbans Singh Karar was adjudged best while Dr Vikas Sharma Computer Professional was given the Award Posthumously. Amongst the students who excelled in academics were Ms. Aanchal Verma, B.Com from Nalagrah, Ms Jaspreet Kaur B.Sc. from Una and Ms Astha Badalia who was first in BA Final.
Sh Inder Dutt Lakhan Pal, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Sh, Bambhar Thakur, MLA Sh Rajinder Singh Chauhan Pro-Vice Chancellor, HPU Prof Mohan Jharta, Registrar were also present on the occasion amongst the teaching faculty and the students.
