CAIT URGED ELECTION COMMISSION TO DECLARE 16th MAY AS NATIONAL HOLIDAY

SHIMLA------In the wake of importance of the current elections to Lok Sabha and its vital bearing on each citizen of India, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), apex body of business community of the Country, in a communication sent to Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commission of India, has urged to declare 16th May, 2014 as National Holiday to enable the people of India to watch live updates and proceedings of the counting of votes through various news channels. The CAIT has directed all its State units to arrange live proceedings at district levels where traders can watch the counting results collectively at one place.

CAIT National President Mr. B. C. Bhartia and National Secretary General Mr. Praveen Khandelwal said that India is the largest democracy of the world as also the largest consumer market and as such not only the trading community but even each citizen of the Country is curious about the poll results and earnestly wish to watch live updates and proceedings of the counting of votes. The importance of the event is gauged by the fact that not only in India but people across the globe are interested in knowing moment to moment activities of the counting in process on counting day.

Both Mr. Bhartia and Mr. Khandelwal said that the trade and commerce being the important segment of the national economy has a special interest in participating the process of counting of votes as the high rising NPAs of the Core Banking sector, mass unemployment amongst younger generation, stalled policy decisions on various important projects are major cause of concern for trade and commerce. Since business community is hoping the 16th May, 2014 as a turning point in nation's development as much has been dependent upon the incumbent government to streamline the domestic trade and commerce which is passing through a critical and crucial stage and also wish to see a strong and stable Government with no policy paralysis.

To register importance of the day, the CAIT has advised its constituents across the Country to hold a get-together at a appropriate place in their respective cities and invite traders to watch collectively the live moments of counting proceedings and updates and on the sidelines also held discussions about the impact of poll results on domestic trade of the Country. In Delhi, the CAIT is making elaborate arrangements at its National Headquarters at Karol Bagh, New Delhi.
