Accident in Una

JAWALAMUKHI,April 3,2008-Two people were killed and 55 sustained injuries when a truck carrying devotees rammed into a shop at the Kakrana chowk in Bangana block, about 15 km from Una in Himachal Pardesh, in the district today, police said. The truck was carrying about 150 passengers from Uplan village near Amritsar city in Punjab. The deceased have been identified as Rajot Singh (35) and Pinku (16). The tragedy took place at about 1530 hrs when the truck was moving from Pirnigaha shrine in Una district to Shahtalai in Hamirpur district. A mechanical failure in the vehicle is reported to be the cause of the accident. No local person was injured in the incident. Immediately on receiving the news of the accident, tax drivers from Thanakalan rushed to the spot and moved the injured to PHC Thanakalan and Una district hospital, free of cost. Some of them made several trips to hospitals.Those seriously injured and admitted to the Una district hospital include Aman Deep Neet Singh, Kulwant Singh, Anju, Bulter Singh, Paramjit Kaur, Manha, Charanjit Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Harpreet, Balwinder Singh, Surjit Singh, Bhajjo Devi, Vikram Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Harinder Singh, Manpreet, Gurpreet, Manjit Kaur, Gurmit Kaur, Gurbachan Singh, Swaran Kaur and Sona. Deputy Commissioner Padam Singh Chauhan and Chief Medical Officer Una Dr Vyom Bhardwaj rushed to the spot to monitor the rescue operations. Kutlehar MLA Virender Kanwar has expressed grief over the tragedy.
